A devout woman who cared for others

Obit-Belanger-webLYNNFIELD — Millie (Hiscock) King Belanger, 91, a resident of Lynnfield and formerly of Melrose and Wakefield, passed away peacefully at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Sunday, March 8.
Millie was born on June 7, 1923 in Carbonear, Newfoundland, one of three children of the late Ingram and Mary Jenneth (Thistle) Hiscock. She was raised in Everett where she graduated from Everett High School. She settled in Melrose to raise a family, then moved to Wakefield for several years and lived her later years in Lynnfield.
Millie was a devout member of the North Shore Assembly of God, now known as the Freedom Hill Community Church. She enjoyed activities with the Ladies Auxiliary including sewing clothing and blankets for those in need.
While living in Wakefield, she enjoyed two weeks every year camping at Pawtuckaway State Park.
Millie was first and foremost a devoted family woman. She provided a warm, loving home for her four children and always had an open door for anyone. Happiest when at home, Millie hosted many family holidays and gatherings for her extended family members who she welcomed with open arms. A true homemaker at heart, she took great pride in maintaining an inviting home and caring for all.
She was the wife of the late Robert Belanger and former wife of the late Robert J. King Sr. She was the devoted mother of Robert J. King Jr. and his wife Connie of Redding, Calif., Carole L. Sellars and her husband Robert of Ipswich, Herbert L. King and his late wife Debra of Middleton and William R. King and his wife Louanne of Melrose. She was the dear sister of the late Stanley Hiscock and Herbert Hiscock. She was the loving grandmother of Christopher King, Robert Sellars Jr., Karen Helton, Brenda Morrison, Tina King, Christina Flora, Herbert King Jr., William King Jr. and Wanda King. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Millie’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, March 12, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Friday morning for her funeral service celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
