MELROSE—The Melrose Middle School Rec. Dept. wrestling team are flying high as they prepare for Sectionals after wrapping up an undefeated regular season.
On Sunday, January 22, the team participated in the Northeast Regional League Championship tournament at Whittier Tech High School in Haverhill. Melrose competed against twelve strong local schools and finished 3rd overall in the tournament. Melrose finished with three 2nd place wrestlers, three 3rd place finishers, and six other wrestlers that earned 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes.
Melrose also completed an undefeated dual meet schedule at 5-0. Now, the Melrose squad is preparing for the state sectional tournament on Sunday, February 5 at Salem High School, where they hope to qualify wrestlers for the middle school state wrestling championships at Wilbraham High School later in February.
Members of the team are Jacob Swan, Sean Mackey, Michael Thomas, Marco Albanese, Sean Thomas, Thomas Brodeur, Stephen Fogarty, Oto Albanese, Quinn Fogarty, Bobby Morrison, Shea Fogarty, Christopher Maher, Dan Freed, Michael Maher, and Matthew Hickey.
