PEABODY — The Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team improved to 2-0 on Monday afternoon as they blanked host Bishop Fenwick, 5-0, up in Peabody in a non-league match.

At first singles, Dan Levin won 6-1, 6-1 while second-singles player Shea McCarthy won in shutout fashion, 6-0, 6-0.

Third-singles player, Russ Kasdon, also shut out his opponent, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, the first team of Kurt Rothermund and Matt Reinold won, 6-2, 6-0. The second pairing of Emile Coumans and Ash Mahajan also won in straight sets winning, 6-0, 6-2.

This was the Pioneers’ first match in 12 days as they had the April Vacation Week off last week.

“We had some challenge matches and worked on some things last week,” said Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn. “So, even though we didn’t play last week, we were ready to go in this one.”

The team has a very busy schedule coming up.

On April 24, they visit North Reading. The next day, they go to Pentucket. Both of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.

The Cape Ann League Open will then take place on April 27 starting at 9 a.m. at North Reading High.

“This will be our first league open since before the pandemic,” pointed out Dunn, as the last one was back in 2019. “I am happy that we have it back.”

Lynnfield will then stay on the road on April 29 and 30. On the 29th, they go to Hamilton-Wenham. The next day, they visit Newburyport. Both of those matches will also start at 3:30 p.m.
