NORTH READING — Six members of the North Reading High boys’ soccer team were named to the Cape Ann League All-Star team this fall.
Three Hornets made the CAL First-Team All-Stars while the other three made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars.
The three First-Team All Stars were Finn Rodger, Max Gulino and Gavin Wesley. All three were First-Team All Stars last season as well.
All three Hornets will also be playing in the Eastern Mass. All-Star game on Friday at Concord-Carlisle High with that game starting at 9 a.m.
Rodger, a senior midfielder, had nine goal and 22 assists.
“Finn is a box-to-box midfielder,” said Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “He is a throwback player the way he plays and he was also our assists leader.”
Gulino, a senior striker, had a team-high 19 goals to go with 11 assists.
“Max is a great scorer,” said Bisognano. “He has 38 goals the past two seasons and he really upped his game this year.”
Wesley is a junior defenseman.
“Gavin is a tremendous player,” said Bisognano. “He is a great defender and is really versatile.”
The three Hornets to make the Second-Team All-Stars were Kieran Miller, Matt Fleury and Davi Leao. It is the first All-Star appearance for all three players.
Miller is a senior midfielder.
“He does all the little things right,” pointed out Bisognano. “He is also a great passer and is always in the right spot.”
Fleury is a senior midfielder, who had six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.
“He played well off of Kieran and Finn,” said Bisognano. “They all complimented each other.”
Leao, a junior striker, scored 18 goals this fall.
“He had a tremendous year,” said Bisognano. “He was our goalie last season and he improved playing forward throughout this year.”
The Hornets had an outstanding year as they reached the MIAA Division 3 state quarterfinals before losing, 2-1 at Medfield back on Nov. 13.
That loss was their only defeat this year as they finished the 2024 campaign at 18-1-2 overall.
In the CAL, North Reading finished at 14-0-2 as they captured the CAL Kinney Division title.
