A family man who was always willing to help anyone out

NORTH READING — George L. Lord, 87, of North Reading, died at his home on Monday, May 27, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy “Bobbie” (Rees) Lord.

Born in Stoneham on April 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Wilbur C. and Edith (Kitchell) Lord. George was a lifelong resident of North Reading. He was a retired Groundskeeper for the North Reading Public Schools. He also served in the U.S. Army.

George loved fishing, boating, Nascar racing, traveling in his RV, camping and restoring and working on his antique cars. He was a huge family man. He was always looking out for the best interests of his family. He was a jack of all trades and was always willing to help out anyone.

Having so many children, it brought a lot of other children into his life. He took them under his wing and gave them advice that he hoped would help them through whatever problems they would tell him.

Family members include his loving sons, Clifford Lord, William Lord and his wife Kerry, and Kenneth Lord and his wife Renee; daughters, Debra Lafreniere and her husband Larry, Robin Lord, Dee Lord-Burke and her husband Lynton Burke, Penny Esposito and her husband William, and Kimberly Lord; his brother, Robert Lord; his sisters, Sally Maker and the late Nancy Porter; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his companion Susan Swallow.

His funeral was held on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Calling hours were held on Friday, May 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
