NORTH READING — While the current heatwave forced the cancellation of yesterday’s Summer BBQ and entertainment series at Ipswich River Park, there is a silver lining as the series will be extended for an extra week, to July 31 rather than July 24.

Run by the Friends of North Reading Parks and Recreation, the weekly summer concerts, children’s entertainers and BBQ’s have been a staple of family fun at IRP for decades while providing much-needed financial resources to benefit the park itself. The event begins at 5 p.m. and ends at dusk.

So mark your calendars for the final two shows! On Wednesday, July 24, the children’s entertainer is The YoYo Show, sponsored by Reading Coop Bank, at 5:15 p.m., followed by the rock and Blues sounds of the White Street Band at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 31, everybody’s favorite Flying High Frisbee Dogs will provide high-energy entertainment at 5:15 p.m. followed by the rock-n-roll music of The Rampage Trio, sponsored by Bark-n-Roll and BnR Rock n’ Rescue, at 6 p.m.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets and your own picnic and also enjoy the a-la-carte BBQ food and ice cream, sold by cash only. And cross your fingers for great weather both nights!
