Pearl-gibbons-pic-webREADING — Pearl B. (Messenger) Gibbons – 89, of Reading and formerly of Wakefield, died, Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Bear Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield. She was the wife of the late Raymond T. Gibbons.

Born in Wakefield,  on January 18, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Florence W. (MacKay) Messenger. She was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School.

Pearl worked as a Realtor, she also worked for Case Drugs in Reading and Bard Medical in North Reading.

Pearl had been a resident of Reading for 59 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Reading, where she was President of the Women’s Group. She was a Campfire Girl Leader, member of the North Village Association and she volunteered for Elderly Services, she shopped for the elderly and read to the blind.

Her family always came first. She always helped others and enjoyed being with her brothers and sisters at the Cape. Pearl loved to sew, knit, cane chairs, crochet, doing crafts and braid rugs. She also enjoyed gardening, playing scrabble, refinishing furniture and was an avid reader.

Family members include her loving sons, Dean R. Gibbons and his wife Marcia (Cook) of Methuen and Dwayne S. Gibbons and his wife Nancy (Chesterton) of Afton, Wyoming; daughters, Nancy (Gibbons) Pearson and her husband David of Bow, NH and Cheryl J. Gibbons of Wakefield; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading, MA 01864. croswellfuneralhome.com
