WAKEFIELD — Police dealt with a number of alcohol-related incidents over the weekend, several of which involved motor vehicles.

Just before midnight on Friday, police arrested a 59-year-old Wakefield man after a caller notified police that a driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of a car stopped in the roadway on Main Street near Lowell Street. Officer Kyle Meehan approached the green Volvo and knocked on the window in an effort to wake the driver. Meehan said that the keys were in the ignition and the driver had an odor of alcohol about him.

Mark W. O’Brien, 59, 70 Bennett St., was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol.

Police will summons a 26-year-old Malden woman on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a shod foot) after an incident early Saturday morning on Salem Street. Just before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, police were dispatched to Salem Street after a caller reported a disturbance.

Police said that they found a woman walking in the middle of Salem Street near Daniel Road, yelling and screaming. As they attempted to calm her down, police said, the woman became more belligerent, began swearing at officers and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. According to police, the woman began kicking and biting officers. Police were eventually able to get the woman under control and placed her in custody. She was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and will be summonsed on the charges.

A 21-year-old Wakefield man was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after the vehicle that he was driving hit a pole on Audubon Road. Police responding to the scene found the disabled black Honda Civic on the side of the road with front end damage and the driver standing next to the car. While speaking with the driver, police noticed an odor of alcohol and slurred speech.

Police arrested Andrew G. Sleger, 21, 47 Elm St. on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation.

Police are investigating an apparent hit-and-run accident on Water Street at about 6:45 a.m. Saturday morning. The suspect vehicle was described as a red Honda Civic with heavy rear end damage. Police plan to summons a man to court on various charges in connection with the accident.

A 51-year-old Wakefield woman was transported to Lahey Medical Center with head injuries after the 2012 Ford she was driving hit a utility pole at the corner of Main and Charles streets just before midnight on Saturday. Police said that the woman was heading south on Main Street and was attempting to turn left onto Charles Street but made the turn too wide, striking the pole. The Fire Department also responded.

At about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, police and the Fire Department were called to a two-car accident at Main and Crescent streets. Police said that a 2002 Accura was traveling on Main Street when a 2012 Toyota came out of Crescent Street. No injuries were reported in the ensuing collision. Firefighters swept up debris in roadway.

The Fire Department responded to 34 calls over the weekend, 16 of which were for medical aid.
