WAKEFIELD — Police are advising local businesses and residents about an apparent scam where a telephone caller claims to be selling promotional items to benefit Wakefield Memorial High School sports.

Police said that a local real estate agent received a call just before 10 a.m. yesterday from someone claiming to be selling items like t-shirts, concession cups and mini-basketballs to benefit WMHS sports teams and events. The caller claimed to be from an outfit called “Boost Sports.” The real estate agent thought the solicitation sounded suspicious and asked the caller to send an email. The agent later received an email listing promotional items available. The real estate agent then called the High School and was told that they are not currently affiliated with any such effort.
