Master mechanic and wood craftsman
NORTH READING — Richard Allen Mayo, 78, of North Reading and formerly of Everett, died on Sunday February 8, 2015 at his home in North Reading surrounded by family.
Born in Boston on November 4, 1936, Dick was the son of Harold H. and Margaret (Green) Mayo and after his mother’s early death was raised by his uncle Lawrence and Aunt Marie (Green) Denish. He was raised in Everett and was a graduate of Everett Vocational School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was a master mechanic by trade and a wood craftsman by passion. He was a member of the Andover Sportsmen Club, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, writing, and puttering.
Dick was a family man, hardworking and loving, always ready to share an encouraging word and sound advice. He was the beloved husband of the late Priscilla H. (Ahlin) Mayo with whom he shared more than 50 years; loving father of Richard A. Mayo Jr. and his wife Karen of North Reading, and C. Scott Mayo and his wife Meredith of North Andover; grandfather of Michael Mayo and his wife Melissa of Rumford ME, Joshua Mayo and Sarah Mayo of North Andover; great–grandfather of Russell Alan and Charles Richard Mayo of Rumford, ME; brother of Harold J. Mayo, Catherine Gibbons, Shirley Denish Moore, Lawrence E. Denish and Nancy Fraser, all of Everett.
His funeral will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Saturday, February 14, at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to: North Reading Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation, Cilla Mayo Endowment Fund, 191 Park Street, North Reading, MA 01864.
