READING — Richard P. Fotino, 83, a Reading resident for the past 53 years, died Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Wakefield on Nov. 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella (Colantuonio) Fotino.

Richard was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1952. He continued his education at Fitchburg State College where he earned his bachelor’s degree and his master’s in Education.

He taught masonry at Wentworth Institute and Whittier Regional Vocational School in Haverhill.

Richard was active in the Reading Little League, Senior League Baseball, Girls Softball, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. For the past 30 years he has been a very active member of the Reading Lions Club.

Richard is survived by his wife Carole (Bemis) Fotino. He was the father of Richard Fotino Jr. and wife Renee of Dunstable, Robert Fotino and wife Karen of Stoneham, Ronald Fotino of Derry, N.H., and his late wife Jeanne, Carole Ramsay and husband David of Colorado, Andrew Fotino and wife Jeanine of Reading, Elaine Nichols and husband Toby of North Carolina and the late William Fotino. He was the brother of Clare Meegan of Stoneham and her late husband William, Eleanor Castiglione and husband Frank of Stoneham and the late George, Frank, Robert and Roger Fotino. Richard is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Patricia Fotino and Rosemarie Fotino of Wakefield, Josephine Fotino of Stoneham and Diana Fotino of New Hampshire,18 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
