WAKEFIELD — Last night on North Avenue, contractors working for the public works department began grinding down pavement to expose roadway structures like manhole covers as summer road repairs continued.

Last night improvements began on:

• North Avenue (Church Street to Broadway)

• Albion Street (North Avenue to Byron)

• Salem Street ( Main Street to Harrison Lane)

Minor cut ins to side streets along the three major routes.

The night work being performed will include milling of the existing service, repaving, traffic markings and miscellaneous items. The work will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the setup of roadway safety equipment. The actual milling, paving or traffic markings will begin around 9 p.m. The work will be completed by 5:30 a.m. the next morning.

The first phase of the project is the milling of the roadway. This work will take three to four days for all roadways listed above. This usually takes a day or two on each street.

Once the milling phase of the project is completed, the town’s contractor will begin work on adjusting of roadway structures. This work will be done during the day time hours.

The goal is to complete all work prior to Aug. 21.

Please note: all work is weather permitting. If work is delayed due to weather or other circumstances it will be moved forward one day or until the process is completed.

More detailed timing notices will be distributed during the various phases of the project.

All vehicles should be removed from the roadway in accordance with the schedule above.
