Air Force National Guard veteran loved to fish and travel
MELROSE — Robert “Bob” Czarniawski, a man whose life was a testament to love, family and unwavering devotion, passed away peacefully at home, in Melrose on June 30, leaving a void that can never be filled. Born on June 7, 1935, Bob’s journey through life was filled with countless adventures, laughter and the warmth of cherished relationships.
Hailing from the vibrant town of Chelsea, Bob embodied the essence of a loving partner, celebrating an incredible 65 years of marriage alongside his devoted spouse, Marie (Balliro) Czarniawski. Their love story was one that inspired those around them; a beautiful tapestry woven with commitment, support and a shared zest for life. Bob is the son of Chester and Bertha (Tuminska) Czarniawski, brother of the late Maryann Arsenault and Chester Czarniawski.
Bob took immense pride in his service to the United States Air Force National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Military Police.
A committed father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather, Bob reveled in the joy and laughter that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought into his world. Bob’s children: Pamela and her husband, Daniel Witkowski; and Robert and his wife, Carey, were fortunate to call Bob their father, their guide and their unwavering source of strength.
The sparkles in Bob’s eyes grew even brighter in the presence of his eight beloved grandchildren: Sarah and her husband, Daniel Tugender; Leah Witkowski; Nathan Witkowski; Anna and her husband, Michael Cipriani; Jacob Witkowski; David Witkowski; Nicholas Czarniawski; Ruby Czarniawski and three great-grandchildren: Ella, Brody and Duke Tugender. Their smiles brought immeasurable happiness to his heart and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Bob got hooked on fishing at a very young age and over the years he shared his love for the sport with generations of family members and friends whether it was on his boat or simply casting a line on a quiet coastline. He taught us that there was a very big difference between “fishing” and “catching.” Traveling was another adventure that captivated Bob’s spirit, as he explored new places and experienced different cultures, always appreciating the beauty and diversity of the world. But without a doubt his favorite vacations were on Cape Cod where he taught generations of his family members and their friends the best crabbing and clamming techniques!
In the realm of culinary delights, Bob was a maestro of the kitchen, enchanting friends and family with his delectable creations. His love for cooking transcended mere sustenance, turning every meal into a celebration of togetherness and shared happiness. Some of his specialties were his golden fish frys, his perfect scrambled eggs and his famous lobster sauce!
Professionally, Bob thrived in the realm of sales, leaving an indelible mark on John Hancock Insurance Company, Choquette and Co. and Connor Real Estate. His commitment to excellence, coupled with his charismatic demeanor, ensured success in every endeavor he pursued.
If there is one word to sum up the legacy that Bob left to his family, friends and everyone who crossed his path it is the word, smile. Not only was he always flashing his smile which revealed his perfectly straight teeth and accentuated his dimpled cheek, he was always making the people around him smile. He had an extremely quick wit and was always ready for a challenge in a pun contest. He had what he called his “file” jokes that he used so often we could repeat them in our sleep yet we never got sick of them. He lit up every room he entered and within minutes would have everyone belly laughing.
A celebration of Bob’s extraordinary life took place on Friday, July 7, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Church in Melrose. It will be a time to reflect, to share stories and to honor the profound impact Bob had on the lives of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charitable organization that resonates with your heart, allowing Bob’s legacy of compassion and generosity to continue brightening the lives of others.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, may we find solace in the memories that intertwine with our own, reminding us of the love, laughter and kindness that Bob so effortlessly bestowed upon the world. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us as we navigate the journey of life.
