WAKEFIELD — Robert Jones, 87, of Wakefield passed away at his daughter’s home on Dec. 7, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.
He had been a Wakefield resident for the past 56 years.
Born in Melrose on May 12, 1929, he was the son of the late Mainard and Clara (Jeffrey) Jones.
He would often recall his favorite childhood memories of returning every summer, with his mother and brother Cliff, to work his grandfather’s farm in New Brunswick, Canada, along with all his cousins.
Bob graduated from Melrose High School in 1947 and served in the United States Army. He was employed by the New England Telephone Company until his retirement.
Bob is survived by his wife Joyce (Miller) Jones; his children Pamela Noble and her husband John, Janice Smith and her husband David, Robert Jones Jr. and his wife Debra, all of Wakefield, Sheryl Rossignol and her husband Mark of Portsmouth, N.H., Glenn Hawkes and his wife Ann of Newburyport and Stacy Cutler and her husband Mark, of Chattanooga,Tenn.
He was also the loving grandfather of: Christina Dixon, Kerry Moorer, Sarah Collela, Robert and Matthew Smith, Bradford Jones, Jeffrey and Eric Noble, Deborah Noble Thomas, Joshua Ego, Kaylee Hawkes, Mia and Kami Cutler, and his great-granddaughters Avery Moorer and Hayley Collela.
He is also survived by his brother Clifford Jones and his wife Rose of Lynnfield and many nieces and nephews.
His memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 8 Lafayette St., Wakefield on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 10:30 a.m.
