Resident of town for 26 years

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Ruth M. Williamson (Glendinning) age 92 passed away peacefully at home in Williamsburg, Va. after a long illness. At her passing she was surrounded by her hospice nurse, Amber, her family, her pets and favorite music.

Ruth was born in Greenwich, Conn. to Andrew E. and Myrtle M. Glendinning.

She attended the Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, N.J. where she was active in sports, clubs and cheerleading. She loved playing the piano alongside her dad.

After graduation she attended Columbia University while employed at ALCOA as a metallographer in the metallographic lab where she mounted, polished and photographed aluminum aircraft parts. She was also very involved in many of the bond fund drives to aid in the effort of WWII.

On Dec. 15, 1946 she married Albert Williamson, also a graduate of Englewood High School. Her wedding gown was fashioned from Albert’s silk parachute.

The couple lived in Wilbraham before moving to North Reading where they raised their children and lived for 26 years. Ruth attended the Union Congregational Church and was involved with many of the church activities and groups within the church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Ruth had an open door policy to family, friends, neighbors and animals. She had a fabulous sense of humor. Mrs. Williamson was famous for her homemade apple squares, chocolate chip cookies and angel food cake.

After raising her children Ruth was employed by Microwave Associates in Burlington as a test technician.

She and her husband retired to the Eastman development in Grantham, N.H. in 1984 where she loved swimming, paddle boating and entertaining all that came to visit.

In 2010 they moved to Ft .Myers, Fla. where they lived for five years enjoying the sunshine, beaches and swimming in the neighborhood pool. She attended the Iona Hope Episcopal Church and Lamb of God Lutheran–Episcopal Church.

Last November she and her husband of 70 years moved to Williamsburg, Va. to make their home with their daughter Robyn and husband Tyrone Johns.

Ruth leaves her husband Albert and four children , Dan/Jennifer of Ft. Myers, Fla., Christie of Williamsburg, Va., Robyn/Tyrone of Williamsburg, Va., Rick/Michaele of Rochester, N.H.

She will be missed by her grandchildren, Sarah/Dennis Moody, Elizabeth Williamson, Julia/Dave White, Eric/Elizabeth Peoples, Ian S. Bowers, Bryant Johns, Heather/Jeff Bouchard, Kyle Johns, Ashley Johns Caitlyn Williamson and Megan Williamson.

She was a loving great–grandmother to Seamus Ritz Williamson, Taylor Moody, Michael Maloney, Aidan Moody, Wesley Ritz Williamson, Olivia Moody, Owen Ritz Williamson, Sophie Moody, Ava Moody, Desirea Johns, Joseph Simon and Mason Peoples.

Ruth was pre–deceased by her parents Andrew and Myrtle Glendinning; sister Hazel Coleman and brother Robert Glendinning.
