NORTH READING — The third-annual North Reading Tennis Open will take place on Oct. 5 and 6 at the North Reading High School tennis courts. The first-day matches are slated to start at 8 a.m.

The event is scheduled a little earlier in October than the past couple of years due to weather concerns.

“Our numbers for the tournament went up in our second year last year and we are hoping for bigger numbers this year,” said North Reading High girls’ tennis coach Matt Tiberii, who is running it along with North Reading boys coach Mark Bisognano.

If the event is rained out, the make-up dates will be the following weekend on Oct. 12 and 13.

The proceeds raised will be split equally by the North Reading High boys’ and girls’ tennis programs.

There are two different levels the tournament is being split up into: the junior division (ages 17 and younger) and the adult division (18 and over).

The junior division will have a singles and doubles tournament. The adult division will have a men’s singles and doubles event and a women’s singles and doubles event.

There is also a mixed doubles event for the adult division.

This tournament is open to anybody, regardless of experience or hometown, and is $30 per player. If a player wants to compete in different events (single, doubles or mixed doubles) it is $30 for each different event.

Prizes will be awarded for all of the winners and all of the runners-up in each format.

Players can register on the North Reading town website (www.northreadingma.gov and click on Parks and Recreation) to register.

For more information, you can email Bisognano at mbisognano@nrpsk12.org or Tiberii at mtiberii@nrpsk12.org.

The tournament is also looking for sponsors so anybody looking to provide sponsorships or prizes can also email Bisognano or Tiberii.
