Spicer, Goodchild, Gourville honored, Ickes named Coach of the Year

WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League wrestling coaches met recently to make this year’s all-star selections in both the Freedom and Liberty divisions.
For the Wakefield Memorial High wrestling team, it had three all-stars selected in the Freedom division.
Junior Jack Spicer, sophomore Jake Goodchild and senior Evan Gourville were the three Warriors named. Spicer was the all-star at the 113 weight class, Goodchild was chosen at the 132 weight class and Gourville was selected at the 170 weight class.
Head coach Ross Ickes was named the Freedom Division Coach of the Year.
Even though Wakefield won the M.L. Freedom division championship, it was Burlington and Melrose that had the most all-stars named with four each. Burlington also had the Wrestler of the Year and Melrose had the Rookie of the Year. Watertown had three all-stars chosen.
In the M.L. Liberty division, league champion Winchester dominated the balloting with nine all-stars selected. Winchester also had the Rookie of the Year, Wrestler of the Year and Coach of the Year. Woburn was next with five all-stars named while Reading had one wrestler honored.
