WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Memorial High School is doing something special at Friday night’s varsity football game when the Warriors take on Marblehead in the season opener at 7 p.m. at Landrigan Field.

All season long, the Wakefield Athletics Department is teaming up with 100.7 WZLX CBS Radio to take part in its Unsung Heroes event.

WZLX’s Unsung Heroes event is an initiative WZLX is doing to recognize and honor all of the teachers and coaches out there that have been unsung heroes in children’s lives. From 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., WZLX will have a tent set up in the stadium by Landrigan Field, and they will be filming anyone who wants to nominate a teacher or coach who has been an unsung hero in their life.

People who nominate their unsung hero will get fun little prizes from WZLX (t-shirts, pens, etc). WZLX will be on site at every one of Wakefield’s home games this year (9/16, 9/30, 10/7, and 10/14), to tape nominations. At the end of the season, WZLX will review all of the nominations, and they will choose their top unsung hero, who will receive a $500 cash prize. The family of the person who nominated the unsung hero will also receive a $500 cash prize.
