Italy native was longtime St. Joseph parishioner
WAKEFIELD — Domenica Opland, age 90 of Wakefield, died on November 16 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital.
She was born in Saragusa, Italy on January 22, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Lucia (Monterosso) Battaglia.
Domenica was raised in Italy and came to Wakefield at the age of 17. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church, and worked at Cerretani Supermarket, L.B. Evans Shoe Company, and Revere Mills.
She was the wife of the late Malcolm N. Opland. She was the loving mother of Steven Opland and his wife Valery of California, and Jean M. MacNeill and her husband David of Wakefield. She was the sister of Rosa Margherita of Wakefield, and the late Maria Mignatti, and Anthony Battaglia. She was the cherished grandmother of Jennifer Scalia and her husband Marc, Brian MacNeill and his wife Jenna, Jacob Opland, and Cameron Opland. Domenica was also the great grandmother of Lauren and Aiden Scalia, Ellie and Calvin MacNeill and the late Ryder Opland.
Services are private and are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield.
