Animal lover who enjoyed traveling, gardening and cooking

MELROSE — Nancy (Leyne) Pittenger, 78, of Melrose and Jackson NH, cherished wife, mother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Born to Thomas and Mary (Kelleher) Leyne of Somerville both born in Ireland, Nancy embodied warmth, generosity and an adventurous spirit throughout her life.

She was the beloved wife of Fred Pittenger with whom she shared many joyful years between Melrose and Jackson. Nancy was the devoted and loving mother of Richard Pittenger and his wife Kerbey Smith of Driftwood, TX. Her deep love and dedication to her family were the cornerstones of her life.

Nancy is survived by her dear sisters Mary Ahern, Priscilla McMahan, Patricia Murphy and twin brother Thomas Leyne and their spouses, all of whom she held close to her heart. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews all of whom were touched by her kindness and caring nature.

A proud business owner Nancy was the retired owner of Melrose Paint & Decorating Center. She co-founded Ski Wheelers Ski Club of New Hampshire reflecting her shared passion for skiing and adventure. Nancy’s love for life extended to her hobbies. She enjoyed traveling, skiing, golf, gardening, cooking and the occasional casino trip, always making the most of every moment. She was also a passionate lover of animals and supporter of their welfare. Not a single phone call to her son went without asking for updates of her “granddogs”. Nancy was a loyal and generous friend to many, touching countless lives with her warmth, compassion and joy. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Nancy’s life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, October 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. before leaving in procession to Wyoming Cemetery for her graveside service celebrated at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Jen’s Friends Cancer Support Group of Conway, NH, PO Box 1842, North Conway, NH 03860 or jensfriends.org in Nancy’s honor.
