Melrose man was a private investigator
MELROSE — Walter E. “Ed” Valentine, 68, of Melrose, passed away at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Jan. 24.
Ed was the former husband of the late Irene (Fontaine) Valentine. He was the loving father of David Valentine and daughter-in-law Mary Foley. Ed had also recently become the grandfather to Dylan. He was the brother to Mario, Maria, Steven, Angelo, David and Cindy. Ed is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ed was raised in Saugus, where he graduated from Saugus High School. Soon after that he moved to Melrose, where he raised his own family.
Ed was self-employed as a private investigator for many years. He had recently become the proud grandfather of Dylan. Ed could always be seen wearing his favorite pair of cowboy boots. He had an extensive gun collection and enjoyed spending time keeping up and shooting his guns.
Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.
