WAKEFIELD — The town’s Veterans Day remembrance will be much different in 2020, just like everything else has been.

Because gatherings are greatly restricted, ceremonies will air on public access WCAT all day tomorrow, November 11. There will be broadcasts from Wakefield’s Veterans Day 2016, 2017 and 2019 ceremonies, each running around an hour.

State Senator Jason Lewis will deliver a message, and state Rep. Donald Wong and Kate Lipper-Garabedian are scheduled to as well.

Veterans Services Officer Dave Mangan will talk about honoring and appreciating our veterans and there will be the laying of a wreath ceremony followed by Taps.

The Wakefield Memorial High A Capella group will sing the National Anthem.

WCAT also plans interviews with Harry Chandler, a World War II veteran; Larry Kirby, also a World War II veteran, and Shelby Nikitin, as well as a Medal of Honor event from 2015.

WCAT will present all of this from midnight to midnight tomorrow. You can watch on Verizon Channel 42, Comcast Channel 22 or RCN Channel 13.

This year’s ceremony will also be posted on WCAT Facebook and will be shared to some Wakefield Facebook groups.

While different in appearance, the spirit of the 2020 remembrance of all those who have served our country will always be the same.

We will never forget.
