Capture first in MSSAA competition, beat out North Attleboro for title

MARLBOROUGH — The Wakefield Memorial High cheerleaders were crowned a state champion this past weekend as well. The Warrior cheerleaders secured first place at the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association’s 2016 Game Day State competition which was held on Sunday at Marlborough High School.

Wakefield was one of 19 teams in the competition and scored 255.50 points to win the title.

Wakefield beat out North Attleboro (251.90 points) and South Hadley High School (251.70 points).

The Warriors were the only team from the Middlesex League in the competition which is open to schools in all divisions.

Wakefield has been in several competitions prior to this weekend. The Warriors came in first at the Dracut invitational and then came in second at the Shepherd Hill Regional Invitational. Wakefield also competed in the league competition at Arlington High School and put on a great performance in its division.

The Warriors will be busy this weekend, although they won’t be competing. They will be at a pair of competitions and will be performing exhibitions.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, the cheerleaders will be performing a routine in the NSSAA 2016 Fall Dance Tournament which is being held at Wakefield Memorial High School. The Warrior Dance team will be competing in the showcase which begins at 1:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Nov. 20, the WMHS cheerleaders will be performing a routine in an exhibition on Sunday at the state championship competition (a different competition than the Game Day showcase) at Tantasqua Regional High School.

The cheerleaders will also be performing their routines on Thursday, Nov. 24 at the annual Melrose-Wakefield Thanksgiving game which begins at 10:15 a.m. at Landrigan Field.
