WAKEFIELD — The following was sent to Wakefield Memorial High School staff, students, and parents yesterday by Superintendent of Schools Kim Smith:

The Wakefield Memorial High School community will have an opportunity to meet two finalists for the position of principal and provide feedback to Assistant Superintendent Doug Lyons and me. On March 5 and 6, the candidates will visit the high school to spend time with faculty, staff, and students. WMHS administrators will share these schedules with the school community in preparation.

Doug Lyons and I would like to invite parents, families, and other members of the Wakefield community to attend an evening “meet & greet” session on Wednesday, March 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The schedule will be as follows:

• 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. Jonathan Mitchell

• 7:15 – 7:30 Submit feedback survey

• 7:30 – 8:15 p.m. Amy McLeod

• 8:15 – 8:30 p.m. Submit feedback survey

Jonathan Mitchell is from the Revere Public Schools, where he serves as Deputy Principal of Revere High School. Jon is a Boston College graduate. Following seven years of teaching English Language Arts, eight years in the role of Director of Humanities, and another six years as an administrator, Mr. Mitchell is ready to assume the role of high school principal. The body of his leadership work in Revere demonstrates a commitment to cultivating a student-centered learning environment that thrives with innovative teaching and personalized learning. His unassuming, approachable leadership style, coupled with a deep level of skill and expertise in education, make him an excellent candidate for our high school.

Amy McLeod currently works at Lowell High School. In this large, urban high school, she has been the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the past five years, second in command to the Head of School and supported by four Deans and a team of Department Chairs. Amy is a graduate of Villanova University, and began her career teaching English Language Arts and serving as an Assistant Principal in New York. Ms. McLeod has significant experience in designing professional development and coaching teachers. She is passionate about student voice, teacher leadership, and cultivating community partnerships. Amy’s energy, optimism, and strong leadership presence are a great fit for WMHS.

At our “meet and greet” session, each candidate will provide introductory remarks and then engage in individual and small group dialogue with the WMHS community. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Your feedback is important to us, so please share your feedback for each candidate via an online survey following each visit. Hard copies will also be available at the event.

Thank you for your participation in this important process.
