MELROSE — A Main Street resident allegedly was duped into using money orders to pay for a loan she applied for online.

On Friday, July 1, around 2:10 p.m. the woman told police that at some time earlier she had applied for a loan through an online company called Payday Loans. She claims she was told she had to pay with money orders which she proceeded to buy from several CVS and Rite Aid stores in and around Melrose.

She has lost money, police said, and they are investigating.

Also on July 1, a citizen told police around 6:10 p.m. that a middle aged woman wearing a straw hat and driving a white Ford Mustang on West Wyoming Avenue almost ran her over after citizen reprimanded the driver for throwing trash in the street.

At about 7:50 p.m. on the same day, the co-owner of a physical fitness company told police he had just met with his accountant and believes the other owner of the company withdrew funds from a business account fraudulently.

MONDAY, JUNE 27

• Someone playing baseball in the street at midnight went in for the night after police answered a complaint.

• Loud music was turned down at 12:07 a.m.

• A woman from Youle Street told police she was a victim of credit card fraud around 9:50 a.m.

• A Washington Street resident reported a stolen bicycle at 2:15 p.m.

• Residents of the Julian Steele House on Nason Drive were reportedly stuck in an elevator around 2:20 p.m.

• A large tree limb reportedly fell on the roof of a Howard Street home around 6:10 p.m.

• An intoxicated woman reportedly was trying to get money from a man she was following and yelling at on Franklin Street around 9:30 p.m.

• Youths were reportedly in the park at the Hoover School around 10 p.m.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28

• Trash was being picked up too early at a commercial property on Washington Street around 5:45 a.m.

• Unsuccessful “IRS” scams were attempted around 2:25 p.m.

• A man mowing his lawn on First Street said he left his $150 Black and Decker electric lawnmower unattended around 3:30 p.m. and someone took it.

• Police were unable to locate an alleged homeless man living near Ell Pond around 4:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29

• A 52 year old Woburn man will be summonsed to court for criminal harassment for allegedly continuing to harass his ex-wife, who lives in Melrose. The incident was logged at 9:08 a.m. The Weekly News does not print the names of people police say they plan to summonse to court.

• Vehicles parked on both sides of Farwell Avenue around 9:15 a.m. were making it hard for traffic to flow freely. They were moved and there was not further trouble.

• Employees of a business in the 500 block of Main Street told police around 11:25 a.m. that they were receiving threatening phone calls.

• Two more unsuccessful “IRS” scams were reported around 12:10 p.m.

• A cement truck was reportedly blocking traffic at the corner of Pearl and Cochrane streets around 4 p.m.

• Railroad gates on West Emerson Street were stuck down around 5:10 p.m.

THURSDAY, JUNE 30

• A Holland Road resident reported that a baby raccoon was trapped inside a trash can around 5 a.m. A police officer was able to free the animal.

• A cement truck reported took down a wire on Stratford Road around 7:50 a.m.

• A caller reported losing a beagle named Luke around 2 p.m. The call was transferred to the Animal Control Department.

• A Lebanon Street resident reported hearing loud noises just before midnight.

FRIDAY, JULY 1

• Two driver’s side windows were reportedly shattered on a car parked at a West Wyoming Avenue address at midnight.

• Staff at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital reported at 3:35 a.m. that a patient left the facility with an IV still in his arm. Police were unable to locate him.

• A pitbull was reportedly running loose in the Fairview Avenue-Reading Hill Avenue area around 7:20 a.m.

• A hypodermic needle was found on Essex Street around 4:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, JULY 2

• Loud music was reported on First Street around 2:40 a.m.

• A motorist reported being cut off on Grove Street at Linwood Avenue by someone in a red pickup truck around 10 p.m.

SUNDAY, JULY 3

• A man was sleeping on stairs at a building in the 200 block of Main Street around 12:45 a.m.

• Fireworks being shot off in Stoneham drew the attention of Ferdinand Street residents around 9:15 p.m.
