WAKEFIELD — Veterans Services Officer Alicia Reddin and the town’s Veterans Advisory Board have extended an invitation to all veterans to attend various Veterans’ Day events next Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Women veterans will be highlighted this year.

The first event is the annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony beginning promptly at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the Galvin Middle School’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

This assembly honors our town’s veterans with a program conducted by students in the community and includes participation from local veterans as guest speakers. Next Wednesday, Wakefield Firefighter Marnie Sheeran, a U.S. Army veteran, will be the keynote speaker.

After the ceremony is the Veterans’ Day Coffee Hour made possible by Honey Dew Donuts of Wakefield. Coffee and pastry will be served between noon and 1 p.m. at the Galvin. Refreshments are free of charge with the option to make a small donation.

Then at 1:30 p.m., there will be a special Veterans’ Day Memorial Dedication Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Common.

The Town of Wakefield will dedicate a Magnolia tree in honor of Wakefield women who served and sacrificed in the U.S. Armed Forces. The tree will stand as a permanent thank you to women Veterans and be accompanied by a granite monument marking the location.

“We believe honoring our veterans on their holidays helps foster a spirit of goodwill between the community and its veteran population,” Reddin explained.
