Local high school students will be calling Wakefield residents on Saturday, March 19 between noon and 4 p.m. as part of The Scholarship Foundation (TSF) of Wakefield’s 36th Annual Phonathon. The student volunteers will be calling from the Americal Civic Center where TSF has its office.

According to TSF of Wakefield Phonathon chairperson Catherine Donovan, the annual Phonathon helps raise funds for scholarships awarded to Wakefield residents in their pursuit of higher education. Each donation, regardless of the dollar amount, goes a long way in making a difference in the life of at least one local student in need of scholarship assistance. Last year’s Phonathon raised over $53,000 in donations.

Over the past 56 years, TSF of Wakefield (formerly Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield) has helped more than 10,639 Wakefield residents attain a higher education. Last year, over $475,000 was awarded to Wakefield full-time students of all ages – increasing the total awarded since 1960 to $11.1 million.

Everyone who receives a call on March 19 is encouraged to make a donation to TSF, whether it is to the General Fund or to a specific permanent or accumulating Endowment fund. After the pledge is made, the donor will receive a confirmation by mail. Requests to have the donation applied to an existing permanent or accumulating scholarship can be made at that time by noting it on the check.

Donations can be made online through PayPal. Donors can follow the link found at www.tsfofwakefield.org. The donor will then be linked directly to TSF’s PayPal site for secure credit card processing. Donations can be processed with or without an existing PayPal account.

Any local residents who are not at home when the call is made can send their donation to TSF of Wakefield, PO Box 321, Wakefield MA 01880 or they can use the donation envelope that was included in a recent Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department bill.

TSF of Wakefield is a community-based non-profit organization comprised of volunteer adult and student directors. For additional information about TSF of Wakefield or the annual Phonathon, please call 781-245-4890.
