NORTH READING — The North Reading Youth Services has announced that it is expanding its free Mentoring Program. The program now serves grades 3–8.

Youth Services is currently seeking high school mentors to serve as leaders to children in grades 3–8 each Wednesday for a 10–week session beginning Sept. 30.

The new middle school session will run 2:45–3:45 p.m. and the elementary (grades 3–5) session will run 3:45–4:45 p.m. at the Middle School. Youth Services Director Amy Luckiewicz explained, “Last Spring, I got a lot of inquiries if we had a mentor program for middle schoolers. Middle School Principal Cathy O’Connell encouraged us to try it out and we’re excited to expand an already popular program.” During the 10–week session, mentors will assist with homework followed by a supervised group activity such as cupcake decorating, card games or a structured project.

All high school teens interested in serving as mentors, should contact Youth Services to schedule a meeting. Teens will be asked to make the 10–week commitment, serve as role models and be able to assist with homework. Teens will also receive a community service hours certificate at the end of the session.

Parents of all North Reading students in grades 3–8 are encouraged to contact Youth Services to register their children or visit www.northreadingma.gov/youth-services and click on Programs. The program is free to all participants.
