Loved traveling around with her sisters
MELROSE — Ruth R. (Maguire) Doucette passed away at her home in Melrose on December 28, 2023 at the age of 104. She was born in Woburn, raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School, St. Mary’s High School and Wilfred Academy in Boston and has been a lifelong resident of Melrose.
Ruth worked for over 40 years as a hairdresser in Brookline. She was a lifelong member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church and the Women’s Guild at church. She was also an Eucharistic Minister delivering communion to the sick and elderly. Ruth enjoyed visiting her daughter in Nevada and California as well as going to Plum Island in the summer as a young adult. Everything in Ruth’s life was based on family, traveling around with her sisters to church, church events, Melrose events, hosting Friday night cocktail hour with friends and family and enjoying going to lunch every week with all her friends at the McCarthy House in Melrose.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Charles A. Doucette. Loving mother of the late Lawrence B. Doucette and his wife Debi of Melrose and Diane Sagarra and her husband Craig of Sparks, NV. Caring sister of Thomas Maguire and his wife Ann of Belmont; the late John Maguire; James Maguire; Lillian Dunn; Frances Gensler; and Ann O’Brien. Also survived by 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, January 5 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of christian burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 11 a.m. Burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
