Vietnam War veteran provided affordable housing

 

Costa-obit-webMELROSE — Robert P. Costa, 68, of Melrose, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Monday, Jan. 19, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Bob is survived by his two children, Katherine and Gabriel Costa and their mother Karen Gabler. He is also survived by his brother William Costa Jr. and many beloved nieces and nephews. Bob was also brother to Kenneth Costa and the late John and Richard Costa.

Born Nov. 20, 1946 in Somerville to William Sr. and Mary (Souza) Costa, both of Cambridge, Bob was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Rindge and Latin High School.

He enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably in the Vietnam War. Bob graduated from UMass Amherst with a bachelor’s degree.

He devoted his life to providing affordable housing in Cambridge, most recently through Homeowner’s Rehab, Inc., where he touched many lives.

Bob is remembered by his family for his sense of humor, love of folk music and culinary talent.

In addition to a private memorial service, a public gathering to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Friends Meeting House, 5 Longfellow Park, Cambridge.
