MELROSE — Ann Marie (Ahearn) Murphy, 72, of Melrose, died at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Ann was born in Boston, raised in Dorchester and Charlestown and was a graduate of Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston. She resided in Charlestown for many years and Melrose since 1973. Ann worked in the admitting office at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose for 20 years before her retirement in 1990.
She enjoyed music, dancing, singing and vacationing in York Beach, ME. Ann’s family was the most important part of her life and she loved to spend her time with her grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of the late William H. “Billy” Murphy for 48 years. She was the devoted daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (McDonough) Ahearn. She was the loving mother of Brian F. Murphy and his wife Michelle of Weymouth, Brenda A. Kopylov and her husband Andrei of North Reading and Steven W. Murphy and his wife Tara of Saugus. She was the cherished grandmother of Liam and Margaret Murphy, Sean Kopylov and Owen and Fiona Murphy. She was the caring sister of the late Gail F. Ahearn and Ruth M. Ahearn. She was the sister in law of Jane Papasodoro and her husband Walter of Saugus. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 14, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose, at 10 a.m.
