Enjoyed traveling, reading and the Boston Bruins
MELROSE — Barbara A. (Mullett) McMahon, a longtime resident of Melrose passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital at age 87.
Barbara was born in Malden on October 7, 1937, one of four children of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Mullett. Raised and educated in Malden, she graduated from Malden High School. She received an Associate’s Degree from Fisher Jr. College in Boston and married David A. McMahon on September 7, 1958. They settled in Melrose to raise a family of six children.
Barbara enjoyed working at Stone & Webster Engineering as an Administrative Assistant. She retired after 25 years to spend more time traveling, reading, and being around her grandchildren. She held very dear relationships with her sisters Louise and Alma whom she traveled around the world with to Australia, Europe, Canada and Alaska. With a love for history, Barbara and her husband David enjoyed visiting historical sites around the country and the National Parks. In her free time, Barbara enjoyed walks around Melrose, visits to the Melrose Public Library, playing cards and was an avid supporter of the Boston Bruins. She was a lifelong voracious reader and enjoyed following and learning about British royalty.
Barbara was known for her dry Irish wit and sarcastic sense of humor. She never hesitated to offer her opinion, but found the most joy when around her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed, but always lovingly remembered.

Devoted mother of Carol McMahon of Gainesville, FL; Patricia McMahon of Hooksett, NH; Richard McMahon Sr. of Atlanta, GA; William McMahon of Melrose; James McMahon of Germantown, MD; and Thomas McMahon of Melrose.
