Warriors seek a strong showing

BURLINGTON — One of the goals for the Warrior boys’ track team every year is to have a good showing and even try to win the Div. 3 state meet. Wakefield will be trying to do just that tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Burlington High School.
The Warriors have 30 individual entries and 22 individual athletes that have qualified. Some individual athletes have qualified for more than one event. Wakefield has also has three relay teams that have qualified.
In the 100 meter dash, senior Eric Chi (11.30 seconds), junior Dan Sallade (11.80 seconds), sophomore Henry Stikeman (11.90 seconds) and junior Carmen Sorrentino (11.90 seconds) are seeded 18th, 65th, 73rd and 77th for the preliminaries that have 89 entries.
Chi has also qualified for the 200 meter dash as he is seeded 29th out of 59 qualifiers for the preliminaries with a time of 23.50 seconds.
In the 400 meter run, freshman Brian Smith (51.40 seconds) and senior Joe Boudreau (54.42 seconds) are ranked second and 42nd among quarter milers entered.
Adam Roberto, a junior, has qualified for the 800 meter run as he posted time of 2:00.56. He is seeded ninth among 24 entries.
Four Warriors have qualified in the mile. Senior Alec Rodgers (4:34.90), Roberto (4:35.01), sophomore Matt Greatorex (4:35.69) and junior Ryan Sullivan (4:47.93). They are seeded fourth, sixth, eighth and 35th among 44 milers.
In the two mile, Wakefield had five athletes qualify. They include Greatorex (10:06.50), sophomore Tommy Lucey (10:20.30), Sullivan (10:31.50), senior Chris Skeldon (10:34.7) and senior Rich Custodio (10:40.50). They are ranked 10th, 22nd, 29th, 36th and 45th out of 50 runners.
Zach Conlon, a senior, is seeded 31st out of 41 athletes in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 62.63 seconds.
Wakefield’s 4×100 relay team is ranked 13th out of 28 squads with a time of 45.30 seconds. The runners could include senior Jian Glen Gallardo, senior Kevin Russo, Sallade, Chi, sophomore Marc Biennestin and Sorrentino.
The Warriors also have an entry in the 4×400 relay. The team is ranked 11th out of 33 teams at 3:38.41. The runners could include Boudreau, junior Dan Summers, Gallardo, Smith, freshman Tom Galvin, Conlon and Rodgers.
Wakefield’s 4×800 relay is seeded second with a time of 8:23.00. There are 20 teams that have qualified. The runners of the event could include Roberto, Greatorex, Sullivan, Rodgers, Smith, Lucey, Custodio and sophomore Ryan Ritchie.
Biennestin and Sorrentino are seeded 41st and 47th among 47 qualifiers. Their distances are 19-7 3/4 and 19-5.
In the triple jump, senior Devin Pronco is ranked 20th out of 32 entries in the triple jump with a leap of 40-2.
Wakefield has three qualifiers in the shot put among 24 throwers. Sophomore Pat Redmond (48-9), junior Cole Mottl (44-6) and senior Jared Regan (43-0) are seeded fourth, 14th and 20th.
The Warriors have five qualifying athletes among the 30 entered in the javelin. Russo (168-7), senior Eric Smith (159-04), Mottl (144-0), senior Alex Jancsy (136-4) and junior Devin Shaw (133-8) are ranked second, fourth, 10th, 22nd and 26th.
Galvin is seeded third for the outdoor pentathlon among the five athletes entered.
