Restoring the World War I memorial

LAST FALL, the World War memorial plaque on the Veterans Memorial Common was removed from the old boulder it had been mounted to for many decades. Recently, it was restored like new and mounted on a piece of Barre, Vermont granite similar to the World War II monument. The granite was provided to the town at cost by Woodlawn Memorials and Woodlawn donated their services in restoring the old bronze and mounting it on the new granite. The newly restored memorial will be rededicated on Memorial Day. In 2015, David DeFilippo and Woodlawn Memorials donated the Wakefield Women’s Veterans monument, also located on the Veterans Memorial Common.
