READING — Charles James “Chuck” McKenney Jr., 66, of Reading passed away suddenly in Hobe Sound, Florida on April 2.
Born in Woburn and raised in Wakefield, Chuck was the loving son of the late Charles James McKenney and Florence Edna (Rudolph) McKenney. He was the beloved husband of Alicia Margaret (Paulson) McKenney and the cherished father of Alice McKenney Ingham and her husband Oscar, Charles James McKenney III, and Emily Anne McKenney. Chuck was the dear younger brother of Joan Curran and Kathleen McMenimen. He was the cherished cousin, uncle, godfather, and great friend to so many; he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charles was a retired vice president at John Hancock Mutual Funds in Boston. He graduated from Northeastern University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education, and spent his early career teaching in Marblehead.
He proudly volunteered with the Peace Corps, spending two years in the African country of Lesotho setting up schools and training teachers. He was a long-time, active member at Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham and served as treasurer.
The funeral will be from the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St., Reading on Wednesday, April 12, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrating Chuck’s Eternal Life in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 a.m.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the family on Tuesday, April 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Parking attendants and ramped entrance available. Interment will be private.
