LYNNFIELD — This coming weekend, the Wakefield Youth Soccer U10 boys’ team will have the unique experience of competing against a U10 team of 9- and 10-year-old players from Shenzhen, China.
Along with U10 teams from Lynnfield and North Reading, the four soccer clubs will come together at Lynnfield High School, 275 Essex St., for a two-day jamboree at the school’s new athletic complex.
Games will start at 9 a.m. and end at approximately noon on both Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26. The event will conclude with an awards presentation after the last game on Sunday.
Lynnfield Youth Soccer Club (LYSC) Chairman Steven Connolly is excited that LYSC is able to provide this opportunity for the players from these three communities to experience an international jamboree.
“It’s not often that a team from China makes it to the U.S.A.,” he said.
The connection to the Chinese soccer club was coordinated by former LYSC Board of Directors member John Simonetti through a mutual business acquaintance.
The public is invited to come down to the LHS fields to enjoy the games and cheer on the players.
