Martello-obit-webMELROSE — Claire Martello, 86, passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on January 19

Claire was born in Boston, raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School. She and her husband Fred moved to Melrose in 1961 and have been residents ever since.

Mrs. Martello owned and operated Cameo Academy Beauty School for over 10 years in Malden. She also worked for her husband’s company in the garment district in Boston, operating a clothing machine for the House of Pockets for over 20 years.

Mrs. Martello was a longtime member of Incarnation Church in Melrose where she was a CCD teacher for many years.

In her younger years she loved to go dancing with her husband Fred. She was an avid reader, a great cook and enjoyed playing games especially BINGO.

Claire traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent winters in Santo Domingo and Ft. Lauderhill, FL. But above all she loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Martello was the beloved wife of 67 years to Alfred J. “Fred” Martello. She was the loving mother of Vincent Martello and his wife Patty of Peabody and Linda Martello Chaplin and her husband Richard of Gonic, NH. She was the cherished grandmother of Shawn Vincent Martello, Brian Martello Chaplin, Amberly Chaplin, Nicholas Vincent Martello and Karla Ann (Martello) Meoli and her husband Christopher. She was the proud great grandmother of Vivian and Dominic. She was the caring sister of Lorraine Andrews, Eleanor Barrisano and Carol Capadalupo. Also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday, January, 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral was from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 10 a.m. Burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.

The Martello family has set up a charitable fund in Claire’s name to assist Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for the wonderful care they had given to her over the many years she was a patient there.
