Nurse worked for Melrose Wakefield Hospital

MELROSE — Elaine A. Cook, 63, of Melrose on December 31.
Elaine was born in Fitchburg, MA on July 22, 1952, to the late Irene and Donald J. Cook. She attended local schools and graduated from Fitchburg High School, Class of 1970. From the time she was very young, she had always wanted to become a nurse. She attended Melrose-Wakefield School of Nursing, graduating in 1973. In 1992, she received her bachelors of science degree in Nursing from Regis College in Weston.
“Cookie”, as she was known to many of her friends, started her nursing career at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford in the emergency room. She later became a staff and charge nurse in the operating room department at Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose for close to 25 years.
After a successful nursing career, she worked at Market Basket in Reading until her passing.
She enjoyed spending her leisure time keeping busy with many types of crafts, including quilting, cross-stitching, and most recently, beading and jewelry making. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the beach.
Elaine is survived by her brother Donald D. Cook and his wife Kathy of Rye, New Hampshire. She is also survived by her sister Linda Williams and her husband Dennis of North Hampton, New Hampshire. She is also survived by her niece Carey Tomkinson of Greenland, New Hampshire; her niece Amy Cook of Mendon, Vermont; and her niece Beth Paradis-Nudd of Stratham, New Hampshire. She is also survived by many grand-nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her nephew Justin Nudd.
The family will receive friends and family during calling hours on Sunday, January 10 from 2-5 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster Street, Melrose. Burial will be private.
