NORTH READING — Jennie F. Thomas, 89, of North Reading and formerly of Wakefield, died Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Care One at Wilmington.

Born in Boston on Jan. 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Prospero and Nicolina (DiSalvo) Gargaro.

Jennie was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of Charlestown High School, Class of 1943. She later moved to Wakefield in 1952 where she raised her family.

Jennie will be remembered for her sweet, kind nature. She loved hosting the holidays for her family, where she cooked Italian food, like totos and braciole.

She loved many pets over the years. She also enjoyed going to yard sales, listening to music, singing along and reading.

Jennie was the wife of the late John David “Jack” Thomas. She was the mother of Joanne Haley and her husband Alphonse of North Reading, Janet Platania and her husband Vic of Westford and the late Linda Fallica and her late husband Arthur. She was the grandmother of Melissa Kapeckas and her husband Mark of Marlboro and Matthew Haley of Lowell. She was the sister of the late Kay Fiore, Connie Schuester and Margie Tesauro. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to The Residence at Pearl Street, Care One at Wilmington and Brookhaven Hospice staff for their kindness and gentle care.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday in St. Florence Church. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
