MIDDLETON — It was a successful season opener for the Lynnfield-Masconomet High co-op gymnastics team last Saturday night at Yellow Jackets in Middleton as they won their first two meets against Peabody and Salem. The Chieftains scored 140.35 while Peabody was second at 118.6. Salem came in third with a score of 86.1.

“The night went really well,” said Chieftains head coach Chelsea O’Hara. “We have a big team that was very supportive.”

Lynnfield-Masco came in first, second and third against both schools in all four events.

Gracy Mowers led the way in her varsity debut with three first-place finishes and one second.

“She is a year-round club gymnast,” pointed out O’Hara, about the freshman. “She trains nearly every day.”

She had a 9.6 in the vault, an 9.3 on the bars and a 9.6 on the balance beam. She was in second behind Nicole Bonacorso on the floor exercise at 9.3. Bonacorso scored a 9.35.

Katherin DiNanno also had a good night with a second and two thirds as she was second on the beam (9.0) and third in the vault (9.2) and bars (8.6).

Kiera Flak placed second on the bars at 9.0 while Lylah Paine was third at 8.2.

Miranda Marks took third on the floor at 8.8.

The Chieftains have a busy schedule this weekend. On Friday night at 7 p.m., they face host Winthrop at the Winthrop Gymnastics Academy.

They then host the Marblehead-Swampscott team on Saturday night at Yellow Jackets at 6 p.m. On Sunday night at 6:45, Lynnfield-Masco then takes on Essex Tech at Yellow Jackets.
