ALGONQUIN — It was a successful day for the Masconomet-Lynnfield High co-op girls gymnastics team last Saturday as the Chieftains came in second place in the North Sectionals at Algonquin High School.

The Chieftains finished with a total score of 141.975 trailing only Reading who finished in first at 143.725.

There were 12 total teams there but only the top four advance to the State Finals as Dracut (136.750) and Andover (135.925) will join the Chieftains and Rockets.

Gracy Mowers led the way as she came in first in the all-around with a total score of 37.250. Nicole Bonacorso was third at 35.850. Mowers, a freshman, scored a, 9.650 in the vault, a 9.050 on the bars, an 8.950 on the balance beam and 9.6 on the floor exercise.

Bonacorso had a 9.050, in the vault, an 8.950 on the bars, a 8.525, on the beam and a 9.325 on the floor.

Kyra Flak competed in three events and finished 27th overall. She had a 9.050 on the bars, an 8.450 on the beam and a 8.650 on the floor

Hannah Callahan also went in three events and was tied for 38th. She scored an 8.2 in the vault, a 7.175 on the beam and a 8.3 on the floor.

Miranda Marks competed in two events as she had a 9.0 in the vault and a 9.2 on the floor. Danielle Tremblay scored an 8.2 on the beam and a 8.5 on the floor.

This Saturday, the Chieftains will compete in the State Finals which will take place at Shrewsbury High School.

Along with the four teams from the North, the four teams from the South Sectionals who qualified are Mansfield, Bridgewater-Raynham-West Bridgewater, the Medway-Holliston-Millis co-op team and the Medfield/Ashland/Dover-Sherborn co-op team.

In the regular season, the Chieftains finished the year at 8-0 as they won the Northeastern Conference- Cape Ann League title for the first time in seven years.
