LYNNFIELD — On Nov. 14, the Lynnfield High field hockey team had its awards banquet at Lynnfield Middle School. Not only was the varsity team there, but the junior varsity and freshman teams were there as well.

“It was nice to have all three team there together,” said Pioneers head coach Mamie Reardon.

Reardon gave out three awards that night.

Alex Ross received the Lynnfield Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award for being the senior with the highest grade-point average.

“This is her second year on the team,” pointed out Reardon, about the midfielder and forward. “She is an extremely bright girl.”

Mae Norton took home the Most Improved Player Award. The senior played right-midfielder this fall.

“Mae really learned her position,” said Reardon. “She showed more patience and her passing skills were much better.”

The Coaches Award went to Laura Bockoff who is a captain and played forward.

“She showed a lot of dedication and leadership since August,” said Reardon. “She was really into it.”

While the Barrett sisters, Ashley and Brianna, will be captains again next year when they are seniors, the team also voted in one more captain to replace Bockoff that night.

The new captains is junior Abby Buckley who plays sweeper.

“It was a fun night,” said Reardon, who just completed her 35th-year at the helm. “I just want to thank all of the parents for their great support this year.”

Lynnfield finished at 12-8 overall as they lost at Manchester-Essex, 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Division 2 North State Tournament after beating Danvers, 2-0 at home in the first round. The Pioneers went 9-7 in the Cape Ann League and were in fourth place in the CAL Kinney Division finishing at 4-6.

The Pioneers are slated to return 15 veterans next year as they lost five seniors to graduation.
