MELROSE — The city and its Veterans Services Advisory Board hosted an important Veterans Day observance at the Knoll’s Vietnam Reflection Area on Monday, November 11, capping a weekend of events geared toward honoring those who served.
U.S. Air Force Colonel Robert Driscoll was emcee at the Knoll ceremony, which included remarks from Veterans Services Officer Dave Goss, Gayle-Jean Angelo of the Melrose/Wakefield/Saugus Veterans Services Department and Melrose Mayor Jen Grigoraitis.
Corn Buggy, son of a veteran, led the gathering in prayer.
Local Scouts and singers also participated in the morning activities, which concluded with a reception at the Lt. Norman Prince VFW Post on Main Street.
On Saturday, November 9, the Melrose Veterans’ Services Advisory Board hosted the annual Food Drive at Shaw’s Supermarket, 34 Essex St. Conducted in collaboration with the Melrose Veterans Memory Project and Melrose High School, this food drive collected donations for two area food pantries to help ensure they’re fully stocked for the holiday season.
Veterans’ commitment to serving their community, country and keeping us free are just a few reasons to honor them.
