MELROSE — Carole D. (Cook) Walsh, 85, longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Carole was born on September 9, 1933 in Malden, one of five children of the late Amos C. and Elizabeth (Tardiff) Cook. She grew up in Malden, graduating from Malden High in 1951. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Melrose where she resided for almost 63 years.
A natural wiz with numbers, Carole worked as a bookkeeper. She worked at New England Engineering Company for 33 years, and at Lynnway Auto Auction for 22 years, retiring in December. She was not afraid of hard work, and instilled that in her children.
Outside of work, Carole loved her family. She was especially active in their lives, and was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed taking summer trips with her family to Sebago Lake in Maine or out to Washington State to see her son. Traveling was something she enjoyed, as long as the trip involved family.
Among Carole’s others interests, she took great joy in playing bingo. Her favorite places to play were St. Joseph’s in Malden, and the Boys and Girls Club of Stoneham. She also looked forward to her birthday weekends spent with her daughters at Foxwood’s.
Carole is the wife of the late Robert M. Walsh. Devoted mother of Jean Conrad and her husband Robert of Melrose, James M. Walsh and his wife Laura of Battle Ground, Wash., Joan Acevedo and her husband Dennis of Melrose, and Jane Walsh and her husband John Hagan of Hanson. Dear sister of Virginia Casey and her husband Patrick of Shelton, Wash., the late Calvin Cook and his surviving wife Hazel, Harriett Cook, and Richard Cook. Cherished grandmother of Jill Hughes and her husband Dave, Robert Conrad, Jr. and his wife Miranda, James Walsh, Jr., Joseph Walsh and his wife Jenn, David Modugno and his wife Robin, Daniel Acevedo, John Hagan, and Michael Hagan. Proud great-grandmother of Emma, Hailey, and Hannah, Morgan, and Brooklyn. Also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Walsh and his wife Jean.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Carole’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, April 25 from 4-8 p.m., and again for her funeral service celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Carole’s memory may be made to Golden Retriever Foundation, PO Box 3462, Omaha, NE. 68103, www.goldenretrieverfoundation.org, or a charity of your choice.
