MALDEN — John Shields of Malden passed away on April 11. John was born on October 25, 1943 to John F. Shields, Sr. and Mary (McMahon) Shields.

Loving brother of Mary Jane Butner and her husband the late John Butner of Muskegon, MI and Michael Shields and his wife Barbara Bock of Wayland. He was pre-deceased by his cherished sister Anne Shields. John is also survived by nephews Andrew Butner; Nicholas Butner; and Matthew Butner and his wife Felicia and by a niece Bryna Shields; also his dear cousins Paul McCarthy of Littleton; Joyce Previs of Trumbull, CT; and Mary Patrice McCarthy of Vernon, CT.

John was a 1961 graduate of Malden Catholic High School and a 1965 graduate of Boston College. After graduating from BC, John entered the Peace Corps and served for three years in the Phillippines; also served in the United States Army after returning from his Peace Corps service. John was an employee of the Social Security Administration for over thirty years working primarily in the Malden field office. John was also a passionate fan of all things Boston sports and a devoted follower of Boston College athletics.
