MELROSE — Marie Josephine (Martell) Colosimo, 87, passed away at the Oosterman Rest Home in Melrose on May 7, 2019.

Marie was born in Cambridge on June 7, 1931 to the late Amabel and Catherine (Martel) Martell. Marie was raised in Cambridge, attended Cambridge High and Latin and lived in Cambridge until 1980. Mrs. Colosimo lived in Medford for a few years, several years in Tewksbury and the past seven years in Melrose.

Marie was a dedicated homemaker to her husband and five children who cherished all the times she spent with her family. She was so proud of her grandchildren, enjoyed going to all her grandchildren’s events and was so happy when her great-granddaughter Celina Rae was born. Mrs. Colosimo had a strong Catholic faith, was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Cambridge and would recite the rosary every day. She liked taking trips up the Maine Coast, doing word search puzzles, watching golf on TV and watching Tiger Woods win the Masters. But family was above all in her eyes.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Colosimo. Loving mother of Deborah Shruhan and her husband Michael of Wrentham, Joan Short and her husband Douglas of Medford, Nancy Rizza and her husband Anthony of Swampscott, Edward Colosimo and his wife Catherine of Wilmington and the late Anthony Colosimo. Devoted grandmother of Michael Shruhan, Matthew Shruhan and his wife Megha, Caroline Shruhan and the late Kathleen Shruhan, Harrison Short and Elizabeth Short, Samantha Rizza and her partner Daniel Julian and Jane Rizza, Christopher Colosimo and his wife Mariel, Sarah Colosimo and Emily Colosimo. Cherished great-grandmother of Celina Rae Julian.

Caring sister of Virginia O’Donnell of Reading, Theresa Fitzgerald of Groveland, John Martell and his wife Eleanor of Waltham, George “Buster” Martell of Methuen and the late Katherine Cooney, Ann Martell, Joseph Martell and Thomas “Jimmy” Martell. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, May 10 from 4 – 7 p.m. Funeral procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Saturday, May 11 at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
