NORTH READING — The Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team won its 11th-consecutive match on Monday afternoon as they blanked host North Reading, 5-0, to complete the season sweep over the rival Hornets.
With that victory, the Pioneers improved to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the Cape Ann League.
Their only loss came in the season opener where they fell to Division 1 power St. John’s Prep back on April 3.
At first singles, Dan Levin won, 6-1, 6-3, while Shea McCarthy won, 6-0, 6-2, at second singles. Sklok Kudrimoti improved to 3-0, at third singles as he won, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action, the first team of Russell Kasdon and Rafik Khodr won, 6-0, 6-2 while the second team of Brendan Sokop and Raffi Arkun won, 6-1, 6-0.
“We faced them last week and they have some good singles players,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn. “We struggled with them last week but did much better in those singles matches this time.”
Last Friday afternoon, the Pioneers shut out guest Bishop Fenwick, 5-0, in a non-league match.
“They have a young, developing team,” said Dunn about the Catholic Central League Crusaders.
Levin won, 6-1, 6-2, at first singles while McCarthy won, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles. Kudrimoti won at third singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Both doubles teams also won, 6-0, 6-0. The first team was Kasdon and Khodr while the second team was made up of Avi Shrivastara and Sahil Akhter.
The day before, Lynnfield won at Hamilton-Wenham by a final score of 4-1 to clinch the CAL Kinney Division for the fifth-straight year,
“We celebrated by getting ice cream afterwards,” said Dunn, who enjoyed his Black Raspberry that day.
Levin won a tough match at first singles, 7-6 (7-5 in the tiebreaker), 7-5. McCarthy won, 6-4, 6-3, while Kudrimoti won, 6-0, 6-2, at third singles.
Kasdon and Khodr won, 6-0, 6-3 while Sokop and Arkun lost, 6-2, 6-3.
On May 9, the Pioneers beat North Reading at home in the first meeting of the season 5-0.
McCarthy was at first singles and won, 7-6 (7-1 in the tiebreaker), 7-6 (7-3 in the tiebreaker). Khodr won at second singles, in three sets. He lost the first one, 3-6, but then won, 6-4, 6-4, to pull out the victory.
Shrivastara won in three sets as well, 6-2, 4-6, 62.
Kasdon and Arkun won, 6-1, 6-2, while Sokop and Kudrimoti won, 6-3, 6-0 at second doubles.
On May 17, the Pioneers will host Pentucket. They then welcome Manchester-Essex on May 19 in their final CAL match of the year.
Lynnfield then plays a non-league match on May 23 as they face Swampscott at home. All three of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
