NORTH READING — Hosting the annual Cape Ann League Championship Meet on Friday, the NRHS boys’ team finished in second place, just behind Amesbury.

Nico Johnson soared to victory in the pole vault, clearing an impressive height of 12’6″. Freshman Damian Andrusyshyn also showcased his skills, finishing in 2nd place with a vault of 10’6″.

Kieran Miller showcased his versatility by winning the long jump with a remarkable distance of 21’3″. He also secured a 3rd place finish in the 100 meter dash. Captain Noah Schifano and freshman Brendan Trentsch also placed in the long jump.

In the javelin, junior Captain Nik Laverdiere secured a 3rd place finish, while MJ Murphy displayed his talent by finishing in 6th place.

Sophomore Captain Otto Indelicato had a standout performance in the discus, achieving a personal-best throw of 130’4″ and securing a 5th place finish. He also finished 4th in the shot put. Leo Romanski impressed in the Discus, earning the runner-up spot with a personal-best throw of 147’8″. He also finished 5th in the Shot Put. Junior Jason Puglia, competing in his first championship meet, achieved a personal best throw of 41’11” in the shot put, finishing in 8th place.

On the track, the 4×800 team consisting of Eli Hunt, Alex Mitasev, Cole Fabrizo and Gerard Jorda, as well as the 4×400 team of Seth Evans, Blaine Evans, Kaio Pancini, and Torin Nickerson, ran their season-best times.

In the 110 Hurdles, the Hornets had an impressive showing, with Pancini finishing in 2nd place, Daniil Baranetski securing a 3rd place finish, and Johnson placing 7th.

The Hornets now shift their focus to the Division 5 State Championship Meet at Bridgewater State on Friday and Sunday.
