Loved to cook and bake for her large family, passion for knitting and crocheting

NORTH READING — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Shirley A. (McArdle) Capillo, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 11, 2023.

Throughout her life, Shirley dedicated herself to her family; bringing them together with her delicious cooking and warm hospitality. Her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of her famous dishes and sweets and she took great pride in cooking for her large family, no matter how big the gathering was. Everyone was welcome, except of course during her beloved story, General Hospital.

Shirley also had a passion for knitting and crocheting, creating beautiful blankets, hats and mittens for her loved ones. She would often sit for hours on end, her hands moving quickly and expertly as she finished one project after another. In addition to her love for cooking and crafting, Shirley was also an avid bingo player. She looked forward to her weekly games and would often come home with a big smile on her face after a successful night of Bingo.

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert R. Capillo. Family members include her son, Michael Capillo and his wife Donna; daughters, Maureen Turner and her husband Jeff; Eileen Perron and her husband Roddy; Julie Bornstein and her husband David; and the late Roberta Entwistle; grandchildren, Crystal Richardson and her husband Michael; Joseph Entwistle; Anthony Capillo and his fiancé Brooke; Ashley Capillo; Rebecca Kukish and her husband Andrew; Jillian Turner and her husband Mike; William and Rachel Bornstein; and Colton and Rudy Perron; and great-grandchildren, Claire and Andrew Richardson. She was the sister of the late John, Andrew and Donald McArdle, Elizabeth Culkeen, Helen Murphy, Gail McArdle and Doreen Smalley.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral was held on Wednesday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading. She was laid to rest with her late husband at Riverside Cemetery directly following the funeral.
