WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Police Department is proud to announce four new officers who were sworn in on Tuesday, Feb. 9 following their recent graduation from the Reading Police Academy. They are:
Officer Kyle Meehan – Officer Meehan has served our country as a sergeant in the United States Army since 2011. He is a graduate of Salem State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Officer Russell Carman – Officer Carman has worked as a Corrections Officer for the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office since 2013. He is a graduate of Suffolk University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Officer Shawn Conway – Officer Conway has worked in both the security industry as well as in the educational field. He is a graduate of Salem State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Officer Matthew Surette – Officer Surette has worked for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department as well as the security industry. He is a graduate of Saint Anselm College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Wakefield’s Police Chief Rick Smith said about the new officers, “We are honored to have these officers join our police family. They come to us well trained and ready to work. After a three-month ‘break-in’ period where they learn the nuances of the job with field training officers, they will get their own assignments.
“We truly needed the help. Now that we have it, we are looking forward to these new officers getting out there doing what they do best . . . helping people.”
